Gender misconception and socio-cultural factors affecting women’s participation and career advancement in Taekwondo in Nigeria

This study investigates the gendered disparities in participation and career advancement within field of Taekwondo Nigeria. Despite universal principles equality fairness sports, Nigerian women remain underrepresented due to socio-cultural, economic, organizational factors. The paper discusses how gender misconceptions, such as belief that taekwondo is a masculine sport, create hostile environment, dissuading from participating advancing sport. Stereotyping, coupled with societal religious beliefs, are examined showcase their role limiting female involvement. also sheds light on structural issues, lack adequate training facilities representation leadership positions, further exacerbating gap. recent increase remains dominated by men, only 8% clubs owned women. research emphasizes need for societal, cultural, institutional changes foster an inclusive promote equality, bolster women's growth taekwondo.
